Terry Road in Box Hill will be closed off between Hedgewood Drive and Monmouth Drive from Tuesday, 9 January, to Friday, 19 January 2024.

According to the Hills Shire Council, it is upgrading the road and drainage system on Terry Road between the two Drives, and a culvert crossing will be built.

“The objective of the project is to upgrade the stormwater infrastructure for Terry Road as this section of Terry Road is subject to frequent closure due to flooding,” the Council mentioned.

“This will be done by constructing a reinforced concrete bridging structure (culvert) under Terry Road, raising the surface level of the road and upgrading it to urban road design standards.”

During the road closure this January, its contractors, Menai Civil Contracts Pty Ltd, will commence its Preparatory Site Investigation Work.

Right next to it is the site of the upcoming Brindle Parkway Reserve, which received its construction tenders in late October 2023 and is expected to finish in May 2024.

In addition, the upgrade works will also include the following:

  • Excavation of material from the road and downstream channel to accommodate culvert levels, including removal of vegetation
  • Demolition of the existing pipe culvert
  • Management of stormwater and groundwater
  • Relocation/adjustment of existing service utilities, including wastewater, gas and telecommunications infrastructure
  • Construction of a reinforced concrete base slab for the culverts, including 16 foundation piles
  • Installation of precast concrete box culverts (5 cell) and inlet/outlet headwalls and other stormwater pits and pipes
  • Construction of retaining walls upstream and downstream of the culverts
  • Raising, widening and reconstruction of Terry Road to urban standards between Hedgewood Drive and Monmouth Drive
  • Adjusting Hedgewood Drive between Terry Road and Whipper Street to make smooth transition to the new Terry Road levels.
  • Stabilisation and planting of the channels upstream and downstream of the culverts.

After the Preparatory Site Investigation Work, construction works are expected to begin in March this year, with a projected turnout of six to nine months, subject to site and weather factors.

Two detours are available: Light Vehicle Detour via Cart Street, Bridle Parkway and George Street, while Heavy Vehicles can take the Old Pitt Town Road and Mason Road.
