Dural Scouts Hike Over Summer

Over the Summer holidays, a group of 1st Dural Scouts and Venturer Scouts undertook an adventurous journey from Murray’s Beach to Stockton Beach via the Glenrock State Recreation Reserve.

The weather was hot and humid, but they persevered and achieved their goal after four days’ worth of hiking. Along the way they overcame many challenges – from heat stress, waterlogged shoes, rescuing a baby ringtail possum that had fallen from its mother’s back (they called it Todd and gave it to a W.I.R.E.S volunteer).

They experienced many things they wouldn’t have had the opportunity to if they were stuck in front of a screen all holidays.

The youngest on the hike was Jack, who has only recently moved up to Scouts from Cubs but proved to be ‘the stuff real Scouts are made of’, never complaining about the weight of his pack, nor the heat.

The conditions meant that the Scouts had to support each other as the heat made the hike even more physically demanding than usual, and the 1st Dural Group are all particularly proud of them and their wonderful achievement.

This term all Sections have organised programs with a lot of outdoors activities, challenges, and fun – from canoeing and of course there’s camping planned!

Dural Scout Group has vacancies now for Girls and Boys from 5 to 25 years. Joeys (5yo), Cubs (8yo), Scouts (12yo) and Venturers (16yo). Please contact Phirooza: 0411 731 976 or [email protected] or Simon: [email protected])
