Kerrie Mead celebrates 40 years in Pharmacy Industry
In 1984, 15-year-old Maroota School girl, Kerrie Ramm, left Galston High and on the recommendation of her cousin, who was a dental nurse in Galston, obtained a job working in a nearby Pharmacy for Warren Griffiths. Kerrie was employed there until Warren passed away. Little did she know that she would remain working in the Pharmacy industry – and within Galston Village – for the next several decades.
Kerrie (now Mead) is well known in the community and is renowned for hosting the annual Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea at the Galston Village Pharmacy, where she has worked for eleven years as the Retail Manager.
Over the time that Kerrie has been involved in fundraising for the Cancer Council, she and the team have managed to raise more than $50,000 for Cancer Research. The cause is close to Kerrie’s heart, having lost both her Mother and first Husband to the insidious disease.
Kerrie has witnessed many changes over the forty years she has worked at Galston, including seeing many more people moving to the area, and a greater demographic of elderly people and customers due to the many retirement villages springing up. However, she firmly believes that the area still retains a ‘village atmosphere.’
When asked what were the best things about working in the Pharmacy Kerrie says, “Making lifelong friends, watching customer’s kids grow up and become customers themselves, and of course helping people with their health needs.”
She also really enjoys working with her colleagues and loves to see the young girls (and occasional boys) who start working there as school students, move on to careers often in the health and well-being industry.
April 13th marks the 40th Anniversary of Kerrie’s Pharmacy tenure, so pop into the GVP and wish her ‘Congratulations’!!
